Sedum - The little green plant that purifies your air
We’re all excited about starting 2020, and this month we’re focusing on one of the biggest assets of the wonder plant that is Sedum – air purification.
When we breathe in, we bring oxygen into our bodies and then release carbon dioxide through exhaling. All plants (including succulents and sedums) go through this exact same process, but in reverse. They take in all the available carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and then give off oxygen back into our environment. This symbiotic relationship between humans and plants is undoubtedly one of the greatest reasons to fill our homes and environments with greenery. Plants literally provide us with the air that we breathe.
UK studies have shown that urban particulate pollution found in our air remains at levels which have the potential to cause negative impacts on human health. In addition to supplying oxygen for us to breathe, succulents and sedums have another amazing function – they can purify the air that surrounds us. Comprehensive research by NASA has found that succulents
and other plants actually cleanse the air we breathe and strip it of harmful toxins.
Every day when we’re working with 100s of 1000s of sedums, we count ourselves very lucky to breathe in the enriched oxygen they produce. We pack all of our sedum blankets with these mighty little plants, ready to enhance environments of homes and commercial developments all over the UK and Ireland.
